KC3 · Kinetic Communities

In the transition to renewable energy, communities across New York—particularly people of color, immigrants, low-income families, and tenants—continue to be left behind. As we progress towards a greener future, these communities cannot be forgotten. In fact, we should be putting them front and center.

Our Vision

Kinetic Communities Consulting (KC3) an M/WBE certified, B-corp firm, est. 2017, works with key players in the energy and affordable housing spaces to connect underrepresented communities to clean, affordable energy in NYC and across the country. At KC3, we believe that promoting climate resilience means meeting these communities where they are and finding solutions that work for them. Not only are we proven clean energy experts, but we approach our work from lived experience: we come from the communities we’re serving and bring an unmatched understanding of how to engage with its residents.

We’re clean energy experts that believe promoting climate resilience means meeting underrepresented communities where they are. By working alongside community organizations, advocates, and local governments and integrating their voices and perspectives into our work we’re creating a just, community-driven, clean energy future.

About Daphany Rose Sanchez, KC3 CEO

Daphany Rose Sanchez is a community organizer and expert at climate sustainability with a community and social justice focus. Born and raised in public housing in NYC, she witnessed and lived through the intersections of housing discrimination, climate divestment from communities of color, and economic injustice.

When her parents purchased a house and lost it in Hurricane Sandy just a few years later, while Daphany was finishing her undergraduate degree, her parents didn’t receive help because authorities didn’t believe they were residents of the neighborhood due to their skin color.

The loss of her home moved Daphany to fight for climate resiliency in the communities she grew up with, organizing neighborhoods of color across every major borough in the city while working alongside renewable energy companies and climate resiliency organizations to provide these community members with the tools they need to reduce their energy bills, reduce their carbon footprints, and keep their homes protected from natural disasters.

She is a graduate of NYU Tandon School of Engineering and holds a Master’s of Science in Environmental Policy and Sustainability Management from the New School.

"When we talk about equitable electrification, we can’t do it without talking about lower-income people in affordable housing and NYCHA housing—We can’t just do one building sector with one socioeconomic class of people and think that we’re going to reach our target goal."

— Sahara James, Senior Sustainability Consultant at Kinetic Communities

"The energy industry likes to deem low-income, immigrant Black and brown residents as hard-to-reach communities. Are they hard to reach, or are the traditional outreach methods used inadequately engaging them? Our people-centered outreach approach challenges that. By prioritizing deep stewardship, we’re able to build trust and maintain lasting relationships. This is equity in action."

— Lynda Nyugen, Program Manager, KC3 Leadership Team

"For equity to truly be integrated into sustainability, frontline communities should not only be the target of energy efficiency programming but incorporated in the development of climate change mitigation policy as community-led strategies are key to help us avoid the worst effects of climate change."

Rosy Tavares, Senior Sustainability Consultant, KC3 Leadership Team

More quotes from our expert staff—

There is a unique urgency for environmental justice in New York City. The 8 million people in this city deserve clean air, resilient housing, and sustainable jobs. Especially those doing the majority of the labor that keeps this city alive while barely being able to afford to live here. I am committed to holding governments and utilities responsible for providing the support New Yorkers deserve to live quality, sustainable lives by funding electrification and clean energy upgrades. Through Kinetic Communities, I can connect with the stakeholders responsible for program design and ensure community voices are continuously elevated and incorporated. There is so much work to do in creating an equitable clean energy economy; the KC3 team is willing and able.

— Sahara James, Senior Sustainability Consultant

With NYC pursuing one of the most ambitious climate laws globally, at Kinetic Communities Consulting, we must amplify the voices of frontline communities so that they reap the full benefits of the clean transition, ensuring that the real estate industry does not co-opt these policies for their benefit. For equity to truly be integrated into sustainability, frontline communities should not only be the target of energy efficiency programming but incorporated in the development of climate change mitigation policy, as community-led strategies are vital in helping us avoid the worst effects of climate change.

— Rosy Tavares, Senior Sustainability Consultant, KC3 Leadership Team, Sustainability Consultant

I've always known that I wanted to work in a space where I could help people and be there to support my community. Our work at Kinetic Communities Consulting is great for New Yorkers because we support buildings to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve air quality, and work with stakeholders to make living and working in the city more comfortable and affordable. We work with buildings to support them with the steps they feel satisfied with and customize realistic goals for THEM, even when other market actors may recommend unrealistic decarbonization goals without funding support for those most need it.

—Emily Baumbach, Program Manager

In a city known for its skyscrapers and bustling energy, we at Kinetic Communities Consulting are committed to ensuring our city is recognized for more. All New Yorkers have a right to clean energy, air, water, and space. At Kinetic Communities Consulting, we work to guarantee sustainable equity for all by supporting affordable multifamily buildings on energy efficiency upgrades that provide more comfortable and affordable living conditions for residents and communities.

I joined Kinetic Communities Consulting because community-centered work is at the forefront of addressing our state city’s environmental problems. KC3 is an organization that not only works to create tangible solutions but also empowers underrepresented communities to access clean energy. As a BIPOC individual who comes from a background where a lack of sustainable resources was the norm, my passion for environmental justice is driven by the work that I do in KC3.

KC3 believes that promoting climate resilience means meeting disinvested communities where they are and finding solutions that work for them instead of enforcing market trends that don't foster organic and practical change. We’re a team of proven clean energy experts who take a holistic approach to our work, working with communities from the ground up to secure a clean energy future.
